               November 8th 2016

(on the election of Donald Trump)

             ash floats higher
     over a fire
than masks held up on poles

   November 5th
hence forthwith
they’ll remember their roles

when November 8
 to make America great
   they voted for moles

parent neighbor
 childhood traitor
   faces of conspiracy

                         news now saying
    gunpowder plots
anger at democracy

                                          1967 Near Lagos:

                                                 for Mogens Brynjolf

                                                              Walking to the Sea

           a hot day in motion
slight breeze among palm trees
   wearing shirt no tie

                    a hut
    on a fringe of beach
between forest     and       ocean
             swamp             lagoon

suckling her baby
                   silhouetted against gloom inside
                             that one roomed hut

                      imagine
                    her embrace
                so warmly she unveils
                       watchful brown
                               green eyes

                    in her womb
              a man might gauge
                      a longing for
                             another child
                    so warmly
                          she smiles

             such as he
                                                       lonely walking from Yaba Tech
on his way to the sea
