Eight hours of daylight
clearly never enough
before long evenings
candles at dinner
electric light
barely an hour before dark
watching pale remnants of
light lose domain to darkening sky
I might have heard thunder faraway
barely an hour of full darkness
reflections in windows
mirrors of privacy
soon to be shattered
if enemies come near
should they come trampling our kale yards
what then?
then life goes on
with eyebrows raised as once again
humanity stumbles onwards
once again
